Muscatine Man Sentenced to 35 Years for Methamphetamine Trafficking

A 34-year-old Muscatine man, Juan Aldo Beltran Delgado, has been sentenced to 35 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation that led to an officer-involved shooting in Muscatine, Iowa.

Beltran Delgado was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, attempted possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and carrying and discharging a firearm during an in relation to his drug trafficking. He was also sentenced to a five-year term of supervised release after serving his prison term.

According to court documents, Beltran Delgado and his co-defendant, Isidro Barajas, Jr., drove to a residence in Muscatine on May 29, 2024, to await the delivery of a package containing more than 4.5 pounds of methamphetamine. When law enforcement attempted to stop their vehicle, Beltran Delgado fled, driving at speeds of over 100 miles per hour through Muscatine and crashing into two other vehicles before fleeing on foot with a firearm.

Beltran Delgado’s co-defendant, Isidro Barajas, Jr., was sentenced to 32 years in federal prison for his role in the methamphetamine trafficking operation. Barajas was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, attempted possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, carrying and displaying a firearm during an in relation to his drug trafficking, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was also sentenced to a ten-year term of supervised release after serving his prison term.

The case was investigated by the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Department of Public Safety, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations, Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Muscatine Police Department, Cedar County Sheriff’s Office, Muscatine County Drug Task Force, Johnson County Drug Taskforce, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country. Project Safe Neighborhoods is a collaborative effort between law enforcement and community organizations to prevent violence and make neighborhoods safer for everyone.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal announced the sentencing, stating that the case is a prime example of the success of Project Safe Neighborhoods in reducing violent crime and gun violence in Iowa communities.
