Mexican National Sentenced to 11 Years for Methamphetamine Possession in Nebraska
A federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska, recently sentenced Juan Martinez Arroyo, a 22-year-old Mexican national, to 132 months in prison for one count of possession with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine. The sentence was handed down on October 23, 2024, by Senior United States District Judge Joseph F. Bataillon.
According to court documents, Martinez Arroyo was stopped by a Nebraska State Patrol trooper on August 17, 2023, for following too closely on Interstate 80 in Hamilton County, Nebraska. During the stop, a drug dog was requested, and the dog made a positive alert to the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle revealed a duffle bag containing 11 packages of methamphetamine, which later tested positive for the substance.
The methamphetamine weighed a total of 24,777 grams, a staggering amount that underscores the severity of the crime. Additionally, a loaded Ruger handgun and a magazine containing five rounds were found under the passenger seat.
Martinez Arroyo’s co-defendant, Edwin Correa Miranda, is set to be sentenced on November 7, 2024, before United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis.
The investigation into Martinez Arroyo’s involvement in the methamphetamine operation was conducted by the Nebraska State Patrol. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of methamphetamine and the lengths to which individuals will go to distribute this highly addictive substance.
As Martinez Arroyo begins his 11-year prison sentence, he will also face a 5-year term of supervised release upon his release from prison. There is no parole in the federal system, ensuring that Martinez Arroyo will serve the full extent of his sentence.
This case highlights the ongoing struggle against methamphetamine trafficking in Nebraska and the commitment of law enforcement agencies to bring those involved to justice.
