Kearney Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Methamphetamine Distribution

A 46-year-old Kearney man, Shelby Olson, was sentenced to 120 months’ imprisonment for distributing 50 grams or more of actual methamphetamine. The sentence was handed down by Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard on December 10, 2024, in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The federal government has no parole system. Following his release from prison, Olson will be required to serve a 5-year term of supervised release.

According to the investigation, a confidential informant (CI) purchased a total of 175 grams of methamphetamine from Olson on multiple occasions. The first purchase occurred on June 23, 2022, when the CI purchased 57.2 grams of meth. This was followed by two more purchases: 57.6 grams on June 30, 2022, and 60.2 grams on July 7, 2022. All of these purchases were audio and video recorded, with a positive identification of Olson.

One of the recorded purchases took place in a commercial motor vehicle, and in it, Olson was seen smoking meth while driving.

The Nebraska State Patrol handled the investigation into Olson’s activities.

The case highlights the ongoing struggle against methamphetamine distribution in Nebraska and the importance of continued law enforcement efforts to combat this threat.
