A North Platte woman has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for her role in producing child pornography. Julie R. Thiemann, 34, was sentenced to 23 years in prison by Senior United States District Judge Richard G. Kopf in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Thiemann will serve an additional 25 years under supervised release after her release from prison. She will also be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of her life.
The case against Thiemann began in November 2013, when one of the victims in the case revealed to a therapist that he believed another child had been sexually assaulted by Thiemann’s live-in boyfriend, Billy Schrader. The information was reported to the North Platte Police Department, and a search warrant was obtained for Schrader’s residence.
During the search, law enforcement officers seized computer equipment and other items. A forensic examination of the equipment revealed over 75,000 images of child pornography produced by Thiemann and Schrader.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006. The project marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
Thiemann was investigated by the North Platte Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and was prosecuted jointly with the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office. The case highlights the importance of interagency collaboration in combating child exploitation.
Thiemann’s sentence serves as a reminder of the severity of crimes involving child exploitation. The production and distribution of child pornography are serious crimes that can have devastating consequences for the victims.
According to the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office, the case against Thiemann is part of a larger effort to combat child exploitation in the state. The office is committed to working with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to identify and prosecute individuals who engage in child exploitation.
