Oscar Sepulveda, Child Pornography Distribution, California 2024

San Jose man Oscar Sepulveda, 34, was sentenced to 108 months in federal prison for distributing and possessing child pornography, a grim chapter in a case that exposed the depths of online exploitation. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Beth L. Freeman, includes immediate remand into custody and $9,000 in restitution to known victims.

Sepulveda pleaded guilty on October 8, 2019, admitting he used a file-sharing website to distribute sexually explicit images of children, including one image shared simultaneously with 40 other users. The platform also allowed him to communicate with others about the abuse material, fostering a network of predators trading in the most vile content imaginable.

Forensic analysis of Sepulveda’s personal devices revealed over 750 sexually explicit images of minors. Worse, he admitted accessing videos depicting the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers—material so extreme it defies comprehension. The horrors stored on his hard drives paint a clear picture of a man immersed in the darkest corners of child exploitation.

A federal grand jury indicted Sepulveda on November 29, 2018, charging him with one count of possession of child pornography under 18 U.S.C. § 2252(a)(4)(B) and one count of distribution under 18 U.S.C. § 2252(a)(2). The charges reflect both his role as a collector and a distributor, amplifying the harm across a global network of abusers.

In addition to his prison term, Judge Freeman imposed a five-year period of supervised release and ordered further restitution to victims, with the final amount to be determined at a later hearing. Authorities emphasized that each dollar paid is a small measure of justice for lives irrevocably scarred.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick R. Delahunty, with assistance from Susan Kreider, and investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). U.S. Attorney David L. Anderson and HSI Special Agent in Charge Tatum King confirmed the outcome, underscoring federal resolve to target those who profit from or propagate the abuse of children.
