Julio Nunez-lzaguine, Illegal Reentry, OH 2024

The grim streets of Cleveland were once again the scene of a federal crime as Julio Nunez-lzaguine, also known by aliases such as Julio Nunez, July, Alex Moncada-lzaguirre, and Michael Hernandez, was charged with illegal reentry into the United States. The 37-year-old Honduran national had been deported to his home country in 2001 but returned undetected to Cleveland, according to a recent indictment.

Joining Nunez-lzaguine are Sergio Rene Almendarez-Euceda and Jose Ayala-Escobar, both from Honduras and El Salvador respectively. Almendarez-Euceda, aged 31, was last deported to his homeland in 2012 and recently surfaced in Portage County. Similarly, Ayala-Escobar, 29, faced deportation in 2012 and has been located in North Royalton.

The trio’s charges were announced by Acting U.S. Attorney David A. Sierleja. Assistant U.S. Attorney Karrie D. Howard is leading the prosecution of these cases, which have been investigated by a coalition of federal agencies including U.S. Border Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Under the law, if convicted, each defendant’s sentence will be determined on a case-by-case basis, taking into account their prior criminal records, roles in the offenses, and the nature of the violations. Sentences will not exceed the statutory maximum, with most expected to be significantly less than the maximum penalty.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and the defendants are entitled to a fair trial. The government bears the burden of proving their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

This latest case underscores the ongoing struggle against illegal reentry in the United States and serves as a stark reminder of the vigilant efforts by federal agencies to uphold immigration laws and protect national security.
