Oglala Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Possession of Body Armor
An Oglala man was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for possessing a ballistic vest worn to protect against gunfire.
Kane Youngman, 27, was convicted of Possession of Body Armor by a Violent Felon in April 2022, after being indicted by a federal grand jury in February of the same year.
The conviction stems from Youngman possessing a ballistic vest in January 2022, at Oglala, South Dakota, after being convicted of a crime of violence.
This case was investigated by the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Poppen.
Youngman was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after being sentenced by Judge Jeffrey L. Viken, U.S. District Court, on July 22, 2022.
As part of his sentence, Youngman was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Youngman’s sentence is for 27 months in federal prison, followed by one year of supervised release.
