New Orleans, LOUISIANA – KANESHA FLORENCE, the 28-year-old postal worker from New Orleans, has been found guilty of stealing a greeting card containing an Amazon Gift Card worth $250. The theft, which occurred on February 6, 2023, was charged under Title 18, United States Code, Section 1709.
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson, Florence admitted her guilt on August 5, 2025. If sentenced as per the law, she could face up to five years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
The sentencing is scheduled for November 4, 2025, before Chief United States District Judge Wendy B. Vitter. Florence’s conviction follows an investigation by the United States Postal Service – Office of the Inspector General and the United States Postal Inspection Service.
Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell of the General Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution against Florence. This case serves as a stern reminder of the integrity expected from postal employees in Louisiana.
FLORENCE now awaits her fate, while law enforcement continues to crack down on crimes within the mail system and protect the public trust.
