Kedly G. Newlin, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Illinois 2017

A Lawrenceville man has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking ring in southern Illinois. Kedly G. Newlin, 57, was recently sentenced to 235 months of imprisonment and five years of supervised release following his imprisonment, announced Donald S. Boyce, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois.

Newlin pleaded guilty to two counts in a federal indictment, specifically conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. The charges stem from a 2015-2016 investigation that uncovered a conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of crystal methamphetamine, also known as "ice," in Crawford, Lawrence, and Richland counties.

The investigation, led by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Robinson Police Department, Bridgeport Police Department, Lawrenceville County Sheriff’s Office, Richland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Homeland Security. The collaborative effort resulted in Newlin’s conviction and sentencing.

Newlin’s crimes were committed between November 2015 and June 2016. The first count charged that he conspired to distribute methamphetamine, while the second count charged that he knowingly and intentionally possessed the drug with the intent to distribute. On February 17, 2016, Newlin was found to be in possession of methamphetamine in Crawford County.

The sentencing of Newlin serves as a reminder of the severity of methamphetamine trafficking in southern Illinois.
