Deon Dewayne Grundy, Fentanyl Possession with Intent to Distribute, West Virginia 2025

⏱ 2 min read

Deon Dewayne Grundy, a 29-year-old Ohio man, has pleaded guilty to possessing 86 grams of fentanyl with the intent to distribute in Beckley, West Virginia. On September 3, 2025, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at a Beckley residence where Grundy was living, seizing the large quantity of fentanyl. Grundy admitted to selling approximately 5 grams of fentanyl earlier that day to a confidential informant for $300.

Grundy’s plea agreement reveals that he planned to distribute the seized fentanyl in and around the Southern District of West Virginia. The investigation was led by the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit, which consists of officers from the West Virginia State Police, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, and the Beckley Police Department.

Grundy is scheduled to be sentenced on September 11, 2026, and faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 40 years in prison, as well as at least four years of supervised release and a fine of up to $5 million. United States Magistrate Judge Omar J. Aboulhosn presided over the hearing, and Assistant United States Attorney Brian D. Parsons is prosecuting the case.

The guilty plea is a significant blow to fentanyl distribution in the region, and the efforts of the investigative team have helped to keep the community safe from the dangers of this highly addictive and deadly drug.
