Roger Lee Cousins, a 51-year-old from Beckley, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison for distributing cocaine and fentanyl. On November 8, 2024, Cousins sold approximately 14.66 grams of cocaine and 27.2 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant in Beckley, receiving $3,140 for the controlled substances. This was not an isolated incident, as Cousins admitted to additional sales of cocaine and fentanyl on multiple occasions.

Cousins’ guilty plea and subsequent sentencing are the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit. The unit consists of officers from the West Virginia State Police, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, and the Beckley Police Department.

United States Attorney Moore Capito commended the investigative work of the agencies involved, and Chief United States District Judge Frank W. Volk imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorneys Brian D. Parsons, Timothy D. Boggess, and former Assistant United States Attorney Andrew D. Isabell prosecuted the case.

Cousins’ sentence will be followed by 3 years of supervised release, a measure aimed at preventing further criminal activity. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug distribution in West Virginia and the severity of penalties for those involved in such crimes.
