North Versailles Felon Gets Over a Decade for Gun Possession
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Keion Washington, 25, of North Versailles, Pennsylvania, is facing more than ten years behind bars after being sentenced in federal court for illegally possessing a firearm. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced the 121-month sentence, followed by three years of supervised release, today.
The case unfolded on February 7, 2024, when Washington was spotted driving a vehicle linked to a prior incident. When officers attempted a traffic stop, Washington floored it, initiating a brief chase before ditching the car and taking off on foot. It didn’t take long for law enforcement to locate the vehicle – and what was inside. A stolen rifle, loaded with a full 30-round magazine, was discovered.
United States District Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand didn’t pull any punches during sentencing. She explicitly stated the penalty reflected both the severity of the current offense *and* Washington’s lengthy rap sheet, which includes two prior felony convictions for controlled substance offenses. This wasn’t a first-time offender simply making a mistake; this was a repeat offender actively endangering the public.
The prosecution, handled by Assistant United States Attorneys DeMarr W. Moulton and Jacqueline C. Brown, painted a clear picture of Washington’s disregard for the law. The recovery of the stolen, loaded rifle underscored the potential danger he posed. The swift apprehension and prosecution were crucial in preventing further harm.
Rivetti was quick to praise the collaborative effort that brought Washington to justice. He specifically commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for their diligent investigation. This case serves as a stark reminder that possessing a firearm while being a convicted felon carries serious consequences.
Washington’s 121-month sentence sends a clear message: those who illegally possess firearms, especially those with prior convictions, will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. The streets of Pittsburgh are a little safer with this individual off them for over a decade. The investigation remains closed.
