Everett residents are still reeling from a violent shooting that left multiple houses damaged by stray bullets. One of the shooters, Kenneth Munoz, has finally faced justice for his role in the crime.
Munoz, 27, was sentenced to 70 months in prison for illegally possessing ammunition in connection with the shooting in a residential neighborhood of Everett. The sentence is to be followed by three years of supervised release.
The shooting occurred on the afternoon of January 2, 2022, when three individuals fired over 20 shots in the neighborhood. Munoz was identified as one of the shooters and was subsequently arrested and charged.
Munoz’s prior convictions, including a 2017 state conviction for assault and battery on a family member and malicious destruction of property, made him prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. Despite this, he was found in possession of ammunition, leading to his indictment and eventual guilty plea.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and other law enforcement officials made the announcement regarding Munoz’s sentencing. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Hoefle prosecuted the case.
Munoz’s sentence is a significant blow to those who think they can commit crimes and avoid consequences. The Everett Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives worked tirelessly to bring Munoz to justice, and their efforts have paid off.
