Kevin Jackson, a Montgomery, Alabama resident, has been sentenced to 102 months in federal prison for his role in a stolen identity refund fraud scheme. Jackson pleaded guilty to access device fraud and aggravated identity theft, and was also ordered to pay $150,840.49 in restitution.

According to court documents, Jackson possessed a storage locker containing a computer, three cellular telephones, at least 500 names and Social Security numbers of identity theft victims, and at least 70 prepaid debit cards. These items were tied to a scheme to obtain fraudulent federal tax refunds by filing tax returns in the names of stolen identities.

The investigation, led by special agents of the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation and the U.S. Secret Service, uncovered the scope of Jackson’s operation. The Montgomery Police Department also provided assistance in the case. Trial Attorneys Justin Gelfand and Jason Poole of the department’s Tax Division prosecuted the case.

U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama George L. Beck Jr. announced the sentencing, highlighting the severity of the crime. The sentence of 102 months in federal prison, along with three years of supervised release, reflects the seriousness of Jackson’s offenses.
