TOLEDO, OH – A grim tale of exploitation came to a close as Brady Jackson, 28, from Toledo, Ohio, was meted out a 15-year sentence for sex trafficking involving minors. United States Attorney Steven M. Dettelbach and FBI Special Agent in Charge Stephen D. Anthony announced the severe penalty.
Jackson was convicted last year on two counts of sex trafficking of children following an intense jury trial. The despicable nature of his crime was underscored by Dettelbach, who stated, “Human trafficking is a despicable crime, and this defendant targeted vulnerable people for the sole purpose of profiting off them in the commercial sex industry.”
Anthony emphasized the injustice faced by minors, saying, “The sexual human trafficking of minors for profit is an injustice that will not be tolerated. The FBI continues to aggressively pursue and bring to justice those who violate the rights of our most vulnerable community.”
Jackson’s exploitation tactics were manipulative and predatory. He advertised on backpage.com in September 2011, offering two girls, ages 16 and 15, for prostitution. According to court records, he promised them that while he would keep all the money they made from prostitution, he would take them shopping and get their hair and nails done as a lure.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Carol M. Skutnik and Ava Dustin. The investigation leading to Jackson’s conviction was a collaborative effort of the Northwest Ohio Violent Crimes Against Children Task Force (NWOVCACTF), directed by the FBI Resident Agency in Toledo, Ohio.
The NWOVCACTF comprises special agents from the FBI and agents and officers from various law enforcement agencies including the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, Ohio Highway Patrol, Toledo Police Department, Lima Police Department, Perrysburg Township Police Department, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. The Toledo Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation played a pivotal role in this case.
