Martinsburg Man Admits to Firearms Charge
In a stark reminder of the consequences of firearms laws, Kevin William Medrano, a 27-year-old Hagerstown, Maryland resident, has pleaded guilty to Unlawful Possession of Firearm in West Virginia.
Medrano’s admission comes after he was found to have possessed a 9mm pistol in Berkeley County in January 2021. This possession is a serious offense, as Medrano is a person prohibited from having a firearm due to a prior conviction.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, Medrano faces up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberley D. Crockett is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the West Virginia State Police investigated the matter.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the case.
