A Detroit man has admitted to conspiring with another individual to violate federal firearms laws, according to a recent guilty plea in a West Virginia court.
Tommie D. Rice, 22, of Detroit, Michigan, pleaded guilty this week to one count of False Statement During Purchase of Firearm in the United States District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia.
The crime occurred in Harrison County, West Virginia in April 2019, when Rice knowingly made a false and fictitious written statement to purchase a firearm.
Rice is facing up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000 as a result of his plea. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher L. Bauer is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, while the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, & Explosives investigated the crime.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Aloi presided over the case.
