Brockton Man Sentenced for Kidnapping
A Brockton man has been sentenced to 201 months in prison for his role in the armed kidnapping of a Quincy man and two children.
Diego Pires, 23, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Patti B. Saris for his crimes. Pires pleaded guilty to kidnapping in February 2018.
The kidnapping occurred on October 8, 2016, when a 30-year-old man was assaulted in his Quincy driveway and dragged into a nearby sedan. The victim had two children strapped into car seats in his truck, as well as approximately 30 pounds of marijuana, at the time of the assault.
Once the victim was in the sedan, Pires and co-defendant Malik Bangura drove the victim’s truck, with the children still inside, to a secluded location where they unloaded the marijuana and $20,000 from the victim’s truck. The victim was face-down in the backseat of the sedan at gunpoint, begging for his life and the life of the two children.
Pires, Bangura, co-defendant Yesenia Diaz, and co-defendant Sedrick Oliveira then drove the sedan with the drugs, cash, and the victim from Quincy to Brockton and called the victim’s wife demanding $100,000. Law enforcement officers spotted the sedan and began to follow it, but the defendants attempted to flee and ultimately abandoned the sedan.
The victim escaped and flagged down law enforcement officers, who located the truck with the children inside. Diaz was arrested at the scene, while Oliveira was arrested in October 2017, Bangura in April 2017, and Pires in October 2017.
The case was announced by United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling, along with Harold H. Shaw, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division. Pires was sentenced to 201 months in prison and five years of supervised release.
