A brutal assault in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, has ended with a 30-month prison sentence for Kola Eagle Hunter, a 30-year-old local man.
According to Grimy Times, Eagle Hunter was sentenced on July 6, 2015, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
The assault occurred on July 20, 2013, when Eagle Hunter drove by the victim’s house and yelled at him, reportedly angry that the victim had broken out the windows in his father’s car several weeks earlier.
Later that same day, Eagle Hunter took a club and ran up to the victim’s front porch. The victim was smoking a cigarette on his front porch when Eagle Hunter struck him in the head with the club.
The victim suffered a 5 to 6 inch laceration on his head, which required 16 staples to close.
Kola Eagle Hunter was convicted of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon in federal court. He was sentenced to 30 months in custody, 2 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Alison Ramsdell prosecuted the case. Eagle Hunter was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence.
The case was investigated by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division.
