Kyle Alexander Martin, Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin, West Virginia 2023

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A local man has been charged with a serious crime in our state’s heroin epidemic.

Kyle Alexander Martin, 33, of Morgantown, West Virginia, has admitted to possession with intent to distribute heroin in Monongalia County.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Martin pled guilty to the crime in November 2019 in Monongalia County. He faces up to 20 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $1,000,000 for his actions.

Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

The charges against Martin are the result of investigations supported by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), which was established in 1982 to conduct comprehensive, multilevel attacks on major drug trafficking and money laundering organizations.

The principal mission of the OCDETF program is to identify, disrupt, and dismantle the most serious drug trafficking organizations, transnational criminal organizations, and money laundering organizations that present a significant threat to the public safety, economic, or national security of the United States.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Zelda E. Wesley is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Mon Metro Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, investigating.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Aloi presided over the case.

Martin’s sentence will be determined by the court based on the severity of the crime and his prior record. The case is a sobering reminder of the ongoing struggle against the heroin epidemic in our state.
