MURPHYSBORO, IL – A Jackson County Man has been charged with a serious crime.
Larry J. Dowdy, Jr., 35, has been indicted on charges of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine. The indictment alleges that the offense occurred between 2012 and March 2013 in Jackson County.
An indictment is a formal charge against a defendant. Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge until proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury.
U.S. Attorney Stephen R. Wigginton announced the indictment, saying it marked a significant milestone in the ongoing investigation. The probe is being conducted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Murphysboro Police Department, and Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from the Carbondale Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda A. Robertson is prosecuting the case. If convicted, Dowdy faces a term of imprisonment of up to 20 years, a $1,000,000 fine, and 3 years of supervised release.
Dowdy is scheduled to make his initial appearance in United States District Court in Benton on July 19, 2013.
Wigginton urged anyone with information about the case to come forward and assist authorities in their investigation.
