Jorge Olivares, Gun Possession, Minnesota 2023

MINNEAPOLIS – Today, Jorge Olivares, a/k/a “Stomper,” age 23, faced the federal bench for his criminal past, receiving a 50-month sentence plus two years of supervised release for possession of a firearm as a felon. Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson declared, ‘The defendant is a violent member of the Latin Kings who has repeatedly shot people and brought violence to our streets.’

According to Thompson, despite his previous offenses, Olivares showed ‘utter disregard for the law’ by arming himself again. The people of Minnesota are entitled to safety, not shootouts, he added.

Olivares, a convicted violent felon, was arrested in December 2023 after Minneapolis Police found him asleep with a Springfield Armory Hellcat 9mm pistol within reach. The firearm was loaded and ready to fire, along with twelve rounds in the magazine, amidst over six grams of cocaine in his car.

In 2018, Olivares faced charges for first-degree aggravated assault and robbery after shooting two victims and stealing their vehicle. Video evidence also shows him executing a drive-by shooting while shouting Latin Kings slogans.

U.S. District Judge Ann D. Montgomery expressed concern over Olivares’s escalating violence during sentencing, noting the ‘scary’ pattern of repeat offenders. This case stems from an ATF investigation with support from various law enforcement agencies, including BCA, USMS, MPD, and Richfield Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney David B. Green prosecuted the case against Olivares.
