Child Abuse Lands Nebraska Woman in Prison
Lauren Sherman, a 32-year-old resident of Winnebago, Nebraska, has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for committing child abuse in Indian Country. According to court documents, Sherman physically assaulted a minor child in March 2023, resulting in visible bruising observed at school.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and prosecuted in federal court due to the felony nature of the offense, which occurred on the Winnebago Indian Reservation in Nebraska.
United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced the sentencing, which took place on November 22, 2024, in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska. Chief United States District Court Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. handed down the sentence.
After serving her prison term, Sherman will be required to begin a 1-year term of supervised release. It is worth noting that there is no parole in the federal system.
