Council Bluffs, Iowa – In a gritty blow against drug trafficking in the Midwest, Jessica L. Snavely, 26, from LaVista, Neb., was sentenced to ten years in federal prison on June 4, 2019, for her role in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy.
The United States Attorney Marc Krickbaum revealed that Snavely was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release following her prison term. This sentencing followed a major investigation led by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Safe Streets Task Force.
Authorities zeroed in on a motel room in Council Bluffs as a hub for meth distribution. On April 26, 2019, they executed a search that yielded over a pound and a half of methamphetamine, a stolen handgun, and other drug paraphernalia. Snavely was identified as the individual who received and distributed the drugs from the motel room.
Investigations into the case were conducted by various law enforcement agencies including the Omaha Police Department, Southwest Iowa Narcotics Task Force, Council Bluffs Police Department, and Shelby County Sheriff’s Department. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa handled the prosecution.
This sentence sends a stern message to those involved in the meth trade in the region, demonstrating the federal government’s commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking operations.
United States District Court Judge Stephanie M. Rose presided over the sentencing hearing, ensuring justice was served for those affected by the methamphetamine epidemic.
