A South Bend man has been sentenced to 210 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation, announced Acting United States Attorney Tina L. Nommay.
Lawrence Powell, 44, was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Cristal C. Briscoe after pleading guilty to possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine, a crime that carries significant penalties.
According to documents in the case, a search warrant executed on Powell’s house in July 2022 resulted in the recovery of more than 800 grams of methamphetamine and 3 loaded guns.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Drug Enforcement Administration, including the DEA North Central Laboratory.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joel Gabrielse.
Powell’s sentencing is a major victory for law enforcement in the region, who have been working tirelessly to reduce the flow of illegal substances into the community.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
