Wanblee Man Indicted for Murder and Assault
A federal grand jury in South Dakota has indicted Leon Between Lodges, 32, for First Degree Murder and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. On May 27, 2016, Between Lodges used a knife to stab two male individuals, resulting in the death of one of them.
According to the indictment, the maximum penalty upon conviction is life imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine, 5 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The investigation into the crime is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Poppen is prosecuting the case.
