A 46-year-old Scranton resident has been locked up for his role in a sickening online child enticement scheme. Lewis John Davies was sentenced to 70 months in prison for attempting to entice a minor to engage in illegal sexual conduct.
According to prosecutors, Davies used a computer to try and persuade a minor to engage in sexual acts with him between April and June 2008.
Davies was indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2008, the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Scranton Police Department.
Senior U.S. District Court Judge A. Richard Caputo handed down the sentence, also ordering Davies to serve six years on supervised release after serving his prison sentence, pay a $100 special assessment, and forfeit several computer hard drives seized during the investigation.
Davies was also ordered to undergo sex offender treatment and comply with sex offender registration and notification requirements.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa prosecuted the case, which highlights the importance of policing online predators and protecting vulnerable children. Grimy Times urges parents and guardians to remain vigilant in monitoring their children’s online activities and report any suspicious behavior to the authorities.
Davies’ sentence serves as a warning to those who would seek to exploit and harm our children. As a society, we must remain committed to bringing these perpetrators to justice and keeping our communities safe.
