A Wheeling man has been sentenced to prison time for selling cocaine near a local school, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Lewis Smith, also known as ‘Duck,’ was sentenced to 51 months of incarceration for selling cocaine base, also known as ‘crack,’ near St. Michael Parish School in January 2018 in Ohio County.
Smith, 51, pleaded guilty in April 2021 to one count of ‘Distribution of Cocaine Base within 1000 feet of a Protected Location.’
The Ohio Valley Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, investigated the case. U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Clayton J. Reid prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
The sentencing of Lewis Smith comes as a reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in our community. The Ohio Valley Drug Task Force and the U.S. Attorney’s office are committed to bringing those responsible for these crimes to justice.
