Blood on the streets of Lexington, Nebraska, as Rudy Ortega Raymundo, 35, faces a nine-year gauntlet for methamphetamine possession with intent to distribute. The United States Attorney Steven Russell announced the grim details, revealing that Raymundo was sentenced by District Judge John M. Gerrard to 108 months in federal prison.
Raymundo’s crime: he intended to deal 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and possessed over 50 grams of the drug – pure and dangerous. After serving his time, he’ll be shackled by supervised release for two years, but parole is a federal pipe dream.
The October 3, 2021, incident that led to Raymundo’s downfall began with law enforcement being tipped off about a vehicle on Old Highway 23 in Frontier County. A deputy’s eagle eye tracked the vehicle to a gas station where they confronted Raymundo. His defiance led to his arrest, and a search of his car unearthed a black trash bag brimming with methamphetamine.
In addition to the meth, law enforcement found a pipe with residue and a scale in the center console. They seized around three and a half pounds of lab-confirmed meth, some of which tested at an alarming 98% purity. Raymundo’s vehicle was the crime scene, his destiny now sealed by federal prosecutors.
This high-stakes operation wasn’t just about one man’s downfall; it was a coordinated effort by the Cooperation Operation for Drug Enforcement (CODE) Task Force, the Nebraska State Patrol, and the Frontier County Sheriff’s Office.
