Lincoln Man Sentenced for Possessing Child Pornography

Lincoln, NE – A Lincoln man has been sentenced to 63 months in prison for possessing over 1,100 videos and 63,000 graphic files of child pornography, according to the United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg.

Dale Delmar Hess, 62, was sentenced to 63 months in prison by United States District Judge John M. Gerrard, after being found guilty of possession of child pornography. Hess will also be required to register as a sex offender and serve a period of 7 years on supervised release after serving his sentence.

The case began on July 22, 2014, when a computer technician was contacted by Hess to perform work on a laptop computer. The technician discovered several folders of files containing child pornography and reported it to the Lincoln Police Department. A search warrant was obtained for Hess’s residence, where police found over 1,100 videos and 63,000 graphic files of child pornography.

During the search and subsequent interview, Hess admitted to downloading and saving child pornography. A forensic examination of the computers found during the search warrant revealed the extensive child pornography collection.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood was launched in May 2006 by the Attorney General’s Office and marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The case was investigated by the Lincoln Police Department, who worked closely with other agencies to bring Hess to justice. Hess’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the severity of child pornography crimes and the importance of reporting suspicious activity to the authorities.
