Lincoln Man Sentenced to 150 Months for Meth and Oxycodone Bust
Lazaro Onasi Lopez Campos, a 48-year-old resident of Lincoln, Nebraska, has been sentenced to 150 months in prison for possession of methamphetamine and oxycodone with the intent to distribute, a federal crime.
United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced the sentencing, which took place on May 14, 2024, in federal court in Lincoln. Senior United States District Court Judge John M. Gerrard handed down the sentence, which includes no parole in the federal system. Lopez Campos will begin a 5-year term of supervised release after his release from prison.
The investigation into Lopez Campos began when the Lincoln/Lancaster Drug Task Force received information about his involvement in the distribution of methamphetamine. On March 8, 2023, task force officers observed Lopez Campos driving from Lincoln to a gas station near Gretna, Nebraska. He was there for a short time before returning to his apartment in Lincoln, where he was contacted by police shortly after arriving.
During the search of Lopez Campos’ apartment, police discovered a stash of evidence, including drug paraphernalia, approximately 70 grams of methamphetamine, 90 oxycodone pills, digital scales, plastic bags used for packaging, and items showing that Lopez Campos and the woman who rode with him to the gas station lived in the apartment. The drugs were sent to the Nebraska State Patrol Crime Laboratory for analysis, where they confirmed that the meth contained at least 58 grams of actual or pure meth and the oxycodone pills contained oxycodone.
Lopez Campos’ case was investigated by the Lincoln/Lancaster County Drug Task Force, and his sentencing marks a significant blow to the local methamphetamine trade. The task force’s efforts to dismantle the distribution networks in the area have been a key focus of their work in recent years.
The sentence handed down to Lopez Campos is a serious one, and it serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in drug trafficking. The Lincoln/Lancaster Drug Task Force will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute those involved in the distribution of illicit substances, and their efforts will be a key factor in keeping the community safe.
