Narveal Raggs, Loaded Firearm Possession, Illinois 2026

⏱ 2 min read

A brazen burglary attempt in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood went south when Narveal Raggs, 27, was caught with a loaded handgun equipped with a ‘switch’ device, essentially turning it into a machine gun.

The would-be thief and his accomplices tried to break into a store in the 2600 block of North Halsted Street in the early morning hours of November 15, 2024. But Chicago Police officers arrived on the scene, and Raggs took off running, tossing the gun onto a nearby building’s roof before getting caught.

Raggs, a convicted felon with multiple firearm-related convictions, pleaded guilty in December 2025 to federal charges of illegal possession of a firearm. On May 5, 2026, U.S. District Judge Virginia M. Kendall sentenced him to six years and eight months in federal prison.

The sentence was announced by Andrew S. Boutros, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, along with Douglas S. DePodesta, Special Agent-in-Charge of the FBI’s Chicago Field Office, and Larry Snelling, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department.
