Longview Man Sentenced to 46 Months for Immigration Violation
David Sanchez-Mares, 32, a Mexican national illegally living in Longview, Texas, has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States.
According to the Department of Justice, U.S. District Judge Jeremy D. Kernodle handed down the sentence on June 23, 2025, following Sanchez-Mares’ guilty plea to the immigration violation.
Sanchez-Mares was previously convicted in the Southern District of Texas for illegally reentering the United States after having been previously deported in 2018, the DOJ said. His arrest in Longview on April 4, 2024, for an unrelated state violation revealed the immigration violation.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that aims to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
The case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Longview Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Noble leading the prosecution.
Sanchez-Mares’ sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences for those who violate U.S. immigration laws and underscores the commitment of law enforcement to protecting American communities.
The Department of Justice’s Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN) to tackle the complex issues of immigration, cartel activity, and violent crime.
