Sacramento Man Sentenced to Over 13 Years in Prison for Sex Trafficking of a Minor
A Sacramento man has been sentenced to 13 years and one month in prison for his role in a sex trafficking operation that involved a 13-year-old child prostitute.
Lonnell McCarter, 39, was sentenced by United States District Judge William B. Shubb in October 2010 for his involvement in pimping the minor and an adult in the Sacramento area and during a three-day trip from California to Reno, Nevada.
According to court documents, McCarter took part in advertising the child for prostitution, purchasing bus tickets for the child to travel across state lines, and collecting the money that the child and the adult prostitute received from customers in California and Nevada.
‘Lonnell McCarter preyed upon and entrapped a 13-year-old girl in a lifestyle dominated by exploitation and abuse as she was sold for sex in both California and Nevada,’ said Supervisory Special Agent Maria Johnson of the FBI’s Sacramento field office. ‘The FBI is committed to identifying, investigating, and arresting anyone who traffics a child.’
The case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Morris prosecuted the case.
After his release from prison, McCarter will be subject to supervision for an additional twenty years. This case highlights the serious consequences of sex trafficking and the efforts of law enforcement to bring perpetrators to justice.
