Mason City Man to Face 11 Years Behind Bars for Meth and Firearms Convictions
Lucas Lowman, a 39-year-old man from Mason City, Iowa, has been sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine while illegally possessing firearms.
According to the evidence presented at the plea and sentencing hearings, Lowman possessed a number of guns, including a 12-gauge shotgun, between October 2019 and March 2021. He also utilized a gun to assault another individual during the same time period.
The investigation revealed that Lowman and others conspired to distribute methamphetamine between April 2019 and November 2019. Lowman was previously convicted of Possession of a Controlled Substance-3rd or Subsequent Offense in the Iowa District Court for Cerro Gordo County in 2004, which prohibits him from possessing firearms.
Lowman was sentenced to 135 months’ imprisonment by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand on March 3, 2022. He will also serve a 5-year term of supervised release after completing his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Lowman is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick T. Greenwood and investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Mason City Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, North Central Iowa Drug Task Force, and Iowa DCI Laboratory.
