Luis Armando Moreno-Ayala, Child Pornography, Nebraska 2015

A Nebraska man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a child pornography ring, authorities announced Monday.

Luis Armando Moreno-Ayala, 35, a national of Mexico, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska, for receiving child pornography. According to the charges, Moreno-Ayala downloaded and viewed over 900 videos and 1,200 images of child pornography, including toddlers and preteens engaged in sexual acts.

The investigation, which was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse, was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office.

Moreno-Ayala was previously deported from the United States, but returned and continued to engage in the illicit activity. He was arrested on September 30, 2013, after a search warrant was executed at a Sarpy County home where he rented a room.

Forensic analysis of Moreno-Ayala’s hard drives revealed the extensive collection of child pornography. He was subsequently charged with receiving child pornography and was found guilty in federal court.

As part of his sentence, Moreno-Ayala will serve a 10-year term of imprisonment, with no parole available in the federal system. Following his release from prison, he will begin a 5-year term of supervised release. Moreno-Ayala was also ordered to pay restitution in the sum of $3,000.

Moreno-Ayala’s case is just one example of the ongoing efforts to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood has been a nationwide initiative since May 2006, marshaling federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
