Luzerne County Woman Sentenced for 57 Months in Cocaine, Crack, and Heroin Trafficking Scheme
Grimy Times has learned that a Luzerne County woman will serve 57 months in prison for her involvement in a cocaine, crack, and heroin trafficking scheme. Gina Paglianite, 48, of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, was sentenced in federal court after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine and cocaine base (crack) in Luzerne County between 2011 and July 9, 2013, and separately, to distributing heroin in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on November 21, 2014.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, Paglianite’s guilty pleas were entered before United States District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani. The investigation into Paglianite’s activities was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office, with Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus prosecuting the case.
The 57-month sentence handed down by Judge Mariani will be followed by a three-year term of supervised release. This case is part of a larger effort by the United States Attorney’s Office to combat the heroin epidemic in the Middle District of Pennsylvania. As part of this initiative, law enforcement agencies are targeting heroin traffickers operating in the region and working together to disrupt the flow of heroin into local communities.
Paglianite’s sentencing is a significant blow to the heroin trafficking network operating in Luzerne County. Her guilty pleas and subsequent sentencing serve as a reminder that those involved in the distribution of illicit substances will be held accountable for their actions.
The investigation into Paglianite’s activities highlights the importance of collaboration between federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in combating the heroin epidemic. By working together, law enforcement agencies can identify and disrupt the networks involved in the distribution of heroin and other illicit substances.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania will continue to prioritize the prosecution of those involved in heroin trafficking and other violent crimes. As this case demonstrates, those who engage in such activities will be held accountable for their actions and will face harsh penalties for their involvement.
