Former Mamaroneck Teacher Sentenced for Possessing Child Pornography

Lyle Kamlet, a former teacher at a school in Mamaroneck, New York, has been sentenced to 39 months in prison for possessing child pornography.

According to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara, Kamlet’s illicit conduct was brought to light by the United States Postal Inspection Service. Bharara stated, "Child pornography victimizes the most innocent and vulnerable in our communities. And when a former teacher like Lyle Kamlet possesses child pornography, it is doubly dangerous and disturbing."

Kamlet previously pled guilty to one count of possessing child pornography. The investigation revealed that from in or about 2008 through 2010, Kamlet ordered child pornography videos, some of which he directed to be mailed to the school where he was then employed.

During a search of his residence, law enforcement seized those videos and also found home movies that he had created that contained images of naked children. Kamlet’s actions are a disturbing reminder of the dangers of child pornography and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.

The United States Postal Inspection Service was praised for their outstanding investigative work in bringing Kamlet to justice. The prosecution is being overseen by the Office’s White Plains Unit, with Assistant United States Attorney John P. Collins Jr. in charge.

Kamlet’s sentence serves as a reminder that child pornography is a serious crime with severe consequences. We must continue to work together to prevent the exploitation and abuse of children.

The United States Attorney’s Office will continue to pursue cases like Kamlet’s, bringing perpetrators to justice and protecting our communities from the scourge of child pornography.
