ST. LOUIS – The grim details of a serious crime emerged as Henry Miller, 33, from Cahokia Heights, Illinois, admitted in court on Thursday that he was caught with a machine gun at a St. Louis hotel.
The courtroom was the scene of Miller’s plea before Judge Stephen R. Clark, where he confessed to charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a machine gun.
Miller’s criminal escapade began on December 9, 2021, when he rented a hotel room using someone else’s credit card information, according to the police report. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department was alerted to his presence at the hotel, and they found Miller in the lobby with a suspicious blue satchel beside him.
Inside the satchel was a 9mm Glock pistol modified into an automatic weapon using a device commonly referred to as a Glock “switch.” The semi-automatic gun had a 29-round extended magazine, while another 17-round magazine was discovered in the same bag. A backpack contained 300 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, $2,889 in cash, and yet another conversion device.
Under federal law, the conversion device itself is classified as a machine gun. Miller confessed that he knew the Glock had been modified and even tested it to ensure it worked.
The defendant faces serious penalties for his actions, with each charge carrying up to ten years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both. Miller’s sentencing is scheduled for June 8th. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) jointly investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Szczucinski is handling the prosecution.
