MADISON, WIS. – In a stunning development in the realm of federal drug and firearms crime, Gairitt Schad, 27, of Madison, Wisconsin, has been hit with a grand jury indictment that includes charges of possessing controlled substances with intent to distribute, as well as firearm possession related to drug trafficking.
Schad is accused of having cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin on April 17, 2025, quantities that are deemed substantial enough for distribution purposes. The indictment also asserts that he was in possession of a loaded handgun that same day, which was used to further his drug trafficking activities.
Adding to the severity of the charges is the revelation that Schad had already been convicted of a felony before being caught with the firearm and ammunition. If found guilty on all counts, Schad could face up to 40 years in prison.
This case has been meticulously investigated by the Dane County Narcotics Task Force and the ATF Madison Crime Gun Task Force, which includes federal agents from ATF alongside task force officers from various state and local agencies across the Western District of Wisconsin. Assistant U.S. Attorney Corey Stephan is leading the prosecution.
These charges are part of a broader effort to crack down on drug trafficking and firearm misuse in the region. They serve as a stark reminder of the serious consequences for those who engage in illegal drug activities and associated firearms violations.
Gairitt Schad’s arraignment has yet to be scheduled, but he is currently facing an uncertain future that could include decades behind bars if convicted.
