Bangor Man Sentenced to 4 Months for Mail Theft
Bangor, Maine – David Blaine Fisher, 47, of Bangor, was sentenced to four months in prison for stealing U.S. mail, it was announced today by United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II. Fisher was also ordered to serve three months in community confinement and three years of supervised release. He was further ordered to pay $3,194 in restitution.
According to court records, between October 9 and December 24, 2012, Fisher stole 12 checks that had been set out for pick-up by the U.S. Postal Service at eight residences in Bangor, Ellsworth, and Trenton. He then altered the check amounts, forged endorsements, and used them to buy merchandise at local stores, including Home Depot and Hannaford.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Ellsworth and Bangor Police Departments. ‘Fisher’s actions were a serious breach of trust, and we are pleased that he is being held accountable,’ said U.S. Attorney Delahanty II.
Fisher’s sentencing is a result of a thorough investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and local law enforcement agencies. Their tireless efforts have brought a perpetrator to justice, and we commend them for their dedication to public service.
The case is a reminder that mail theft is a serious crime with serious consequences. ‘We urge the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities,’ said U.S. Attorney Delahanty II.
