Man Admits to Attempted Child Sex Crime

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A local man has admitted to attempting to coerce a minor for sex, a heinous crime that has shaken the community to its core.

Steven Lockhart, 57, of Davisville, West Virginia, pleaded guilty today to one count of “Attempted Coercion and Enticement of a Minor.” The shocking admission comes after Lockhart used his phone to entice a minor in Harrison County to engage in sexual activity in April 2020.

Lockhart, a 57-year-old man with a seemingly innocent face, hid a dark secret behind closed doors. His actions, prosecutors say, were despicable and will not be tolerated in our society.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Danae DeMasi-Lemon is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Bridgeport Police Department investigated, and U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi presided over the hearing.

Lockhart faces a minimum sentence of 10 years and up to life incarceration, along with a fine of up to $250,000. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

The community is breathing a sigh of relief that justice is being served, but the incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that lurk in the shadows.

As a society, we must remain vigilant and protect our children from predators like Lockhart. This case is a stark reminder of the importance of online safety and the need for parents to educate their children about the risks of the internet.

We will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
