Rochester Man Arrested Twice in 2 Days for Threats

In a shocking turn of events, Brandon Correa, a 30-year-old Rochester man, was arrested for the second time in two days for making direct threats to kill the President of the United States, the Governor of New York, and the Lieutenant Governor of New York.

According to a complaint filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig R. Gestring, Correa, who was previously indicted on similar charges on August 5, 2014, made the threats on Twitter and Facebook within the last 48 hours. The postings included photographs of President Barack Obama, Governor Andrew Cuomo, and Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy, with the text “…you three get ready to die”.

Correa, who was already facing charges for similar threats, was arrested for a second time and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Marian W. Payson this afternoon. He was detained and is due back in court on August 11, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. before Judge Payson.

The investigation, led by Special Agents of the United States Secret Service and Investigators from the New York State Police, Protective Services Unit, uncovered the threatening posts on social media. The Secret Service, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge, Tracy Gast, and the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Stephen Nevins, worked together to apprehend Correa.

Each count of making a direct threat to the President, Governor, and Lieutenant Governor is punishable by five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Correa’s actions have sparked concern and outrage among the public, and the authorities are working to ensure the safety of the President, Governor, and Lieutenant Governor.
