Man Exposed Marshals to PCP in Violent Struggle

Kansas City, Kan. – In a disturbing incident, a man was sentenced to two years in federal prison for causing a struggle that exposed U.S. Marshals to the highly potent and dangerous drug PCP.

Frederick E. Pendleton, 32, of Kansas City, Kan., pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting, resisting or impeding a federal employee. In his plea, he admitted to the incident occurring on December 30, 2014, when U.S. Marshals attempted to arrest him for violating supervised release in a criminal case.

The marshals went to Liberty Fruit Co., in Kansas City, Kan., where Pendleton was working. Pendleton resisted arrest, struggling with the marshals. During the struggle, a vial of PCP Pendleton was carrying in his waistband leaked, soaking his groin in the chemical.

Two marshals suffered injuries on their hands that came into contact with the PCP. They were treated at a hospital for exposure to the drug. PCP, also known as angel dust, can cause numbness, loss of motor control, convulsions, and hallucinations.

The 24-month sentence will be consecutive to an 18-month sentence in the previous case. U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom commended the U.S. Marshals Service and Assistant U.S. Attorney Terra Morehead for their work on the case.

Pendleton’s actions put not only himself but also the marshals at risk. The use of PCP is a serious offense and can have devastating consequences. This sentence serves as a reminder of the severity of the crime and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to keep our communities safe.

The incident highlights the dangers that law enforcement officers face on a daily basis. Their bravery and dedication to their work should not be taken for granted, and Pendleton’s actions are a stark reminder of the risks they take to protect us.
