A federal grand jury has indicted a 48-year-old Edgemont man on multiple counts of child trafficking, enticement and obscene material.
According to the indictment, Darren Scott Heller was accused of transporting a minor female with the intention of engaging in sexual activity with her.
The indictment also states that Heller used the internet and cellular connections to attempt to persuade the minor to engage in sexual activity and to send her obscene material.
Heller, 48, was indicted on March 22, 2016, and pleaded not guilty to the indictment on April 29, 2016.
He was released on bond pending trial and faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years up to life imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine, 5 years up to lifetime supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund if convicted.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins prosecuting the case.
Heller’s charges are merely an accusation and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
