Man Pleads Guilty to 6 Bank Robberies
SCRANTON – A Connecticut man has pleaded guilty to six bank robberies in Pennsylvania and two other states, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
David Sandy Lee Parks, 60, of New Haven, Connecticut, entered a guilty plea to all six robberies in Federal Court in Scranton today. Parks has been in custody since July 17, 2015, the day he was arrested by officers from the Upper Macungie Police Department for the robbery of the First Niagara Bank.
The robberies, which took place between February 20, 2015, and July 17, 2015, targeted banks in Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The victims included Peoples Security Bank in Duryea, Wells Fargo Bank in Plymouth, Upper Macungie Township’s First Niagara Bank, and Savings Institute Bank & Trust in Westerly, Rhode Island, Coastway Community Bank in Warwick, Rhode Island, and Citizen’s Bank in Stonington, Connecticut.
The case was jointly investigated by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office.
Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus led the prosecution, which is ongoing.
Parks faces a maximum penalty of 135 years in prison, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. The sentence will be determined by Senior United States District Court Judge Edwin M. Kosik after considering the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the dedication of federal, state, and local authorities in combating financial crimes.
