A Phillips County man has been sentenced to five years in prison for a federal gun charge, according to authorities.

Brian Eugene Post, 36, of Phillipsburg, Kan., was sentenced after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

Investigation showed that Post sold methamphetamine and oxycodone to an undercover agent working for the Kansas Bureau of Investigation on three separate occasions in 2012: March 7, April 11, and April 18. Additional charges were made after a May 12 meeting between Post and the undercover agent, during which more drugs were exchanged.

Post was arrested shortly after the May 12 meeting, and investigators found a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun in his car, along with hydrocodone and hashish oil.

U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom commended the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Hendershot for their work on the case.

The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking and the dangers associated with it. The Grimy Times will continue to monitor this and other cases involving similar crimes.
