Man Sentenced for Transporting Woman for Prostitution
A Los Angeles, California, man, Joe Charles Becker, 33, has been sentenced to 15 months in custody for transporting a 20-year-old woman for prostitution.
According to the investigation, Becker met the victim in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and paid for her bus ticket to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for the purpose of engaging in illegal commercial sex acts.
Becker’s operation was discovered on August 3, 2013, when the Sioux Falls Police Department learned he was posting advertisements for prostitution on the Internet.
Police found Becker with almost $7,000 in cash, and a computer and cell phone used to post the advertisements when they arrived at his hotel.
The victim reported the prostitution activity to the police after she fled the hotel, and Becker was subsequently arrested.
Becker was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 13, 2013, for Transportation for Prostitution, Inducing Travel to Engage in Prostitution, and Sex Trafficking.
He pled guilty to the charge of Transportation for Prostitution on November 26, 2013, and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on March 3, 2014.
