HERNAN AYALA, 32, of Manchester, Connecticut, is facing federal charges for child exploitation and possession of child pornography, according to a statement from the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. The harrowing allegations involve Ayala’s sexual abuse of a minor female over eight years.

Ayala appeared in Hartford federal court on charges stemming from a complaint filed by the Manchester Police Department. The victim, a minor female, alleged that Ayala had engaged in sexual conduct with her since she was a child and recorded their encounters on his cellphone. Investigators seized several electronic devices during a search of Ayala’s residence, including his iPhone, which contained numerous videos and images of the abuse.

Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, emphasized that the criminal complaint against Ayala is not evidence of guilt, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Manchester Police Department, the Glastonbury Police Department, and the Connecticut Center for Digital Investigations.

The charges against Ayala include sexual exploitation of children, which carries a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 15 years and a maximum term of 30 years. He also faces possession of child pornography charges, with a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
