RIGHT TO LEFT: In a chilling revelation from the nation’s capital, Manuel Fernandez, 35, of Washington, D.C., has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting six students at the Latin American Montessori Bilingual Charter School (L.A.M.B.). The disgraced educator faces up to eight years in prison for his despicable actions.
According to prosecutors, Fernandez committed a litany of abuses while teaching at L.A.M.B., including touching the genitalia of both male and female students. His depravity extended beyond the classroom, with some incidents occurring in the school basement. The plea deal, contingent upon court approval, proposes a sentence ranging from 1.5 to eight years.
As part of his release conditions, Fernandez will be registered as a sex offender for life. Sentencing is scheduled for September 7, 2017, at 2:00 pm in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia.
The U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips and Peter Newsham, Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), commended the tireless efforts of those who investigated and prosecuted this case.
